Total ARCS predicts cognitive impairment with good sensitivity and specificity relative to the BICAMS tests (AUC = 0.8; P = 0.00045). Total ARCS detects higher levels of impairment than BICAMS in MS patients (44% versus 21%). The memory domain of the ARCS and the BVMT-R were the best predictors of employment status (OR = 1.12 and 1.14, P  < 0.05). Conclusion: BICAMS and ARCS have comparable sensitivity for cognitive impairment in MS. Memory assessment from either tests is the best predictor of employment status; however, the BICAMS is a better predictor of work productivity.]]> Wed 23 Nov 2022 15:41:25 AEDT ]]> The Audio Recorded Cognitive Screen (ARCS): a flexible and versatile instrument for clinic or research https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:27794 Wed 22 May 2019 14:45:58 AEST ]]> Diet quality and cognitive performance in Australian adults aged 55-85 years: a cross-sectional analysis of the Hunter Community Study cohort https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46862 p < 0.001; R2 = 0.0098). Furthermore, when quintiles of ARFS score were tested against each ARCS sub-scale score, statistically significant associations were observed with the greatest effect for the Memory (β = 4.055; p = 0.001; R2 = 0.0065) and Attention (β = 4.136; p = 0.002; R2 = 0.0047) domains. No statistically significant associations were observed between quintiles of ARFS and MMSE score in the adjusted linear regression analyses. In conclusion, a positive association was observed between diet quality and cognitive performance within this sample of older Australian adults. Further investigation of the above association over time, when follow-up data becomes available, in longitudinal analysis is recommended.]]> Wed 22 Mar 2023 16:38:11 AEDT ]]> Genome-wide significant results identified for plasma apolipoprotein H levels in middle-aged and older adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24759 -11). The results were replicated in an independent cohort, the Hunter Community Study (p < 0.002) (n = 313). Conditional and joint analysis (COJO) confirmed the association of the chromosomal 17 region with ApoH levels. The set of independent SNPs identified by COJO explained 23% of the variance. The relationships between the top SNPs and cardiovascular/lipid/cognition measures and diabetes were assessed in Sydney MAS, with suggestive results observed for diabetes and cognitive performance. However, replication of these results in the smaller OATS cohort was not found. This work provides impetus for future research to better understand the contribution of genetics to ApoH levels and its possible impacts on health.]]> Wed 15 Dec 2021 16:09:56 AEDT ]]> Serum methylarginines and spirometry-measured lung function in older adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14963 Wed 11 Apr 2018 17:03:18 AEST ]]> Does traumatic brain injury lead to criminality? For each case, two age- and sex-matched controls with no diagnosis of psychosis were selected. Criminal convictions were identified using the NSW Reoffending Database. Cases were approximately 5 times more likely to offend compared with controls, adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 4.68, 95% confidence interval (CI) = [4.55, 4.81], and accounted for 10% of all criminal convictions in NSW between 2001 and 2015. The prevalence of at least one criminal conviction was 30% among cases compared with 6% among controls. The results from this study confirm previous work regarding the association between psychosis and criminal convictions. More work is needed to better articulate the mechanisms for this association to enable prevention strategies to be developed.]]> Wed 10 Aug 2022 11:22:13 AEST ]]> Psychiatric admissions in young people after expiration of criminal justice supervision in Australia: a retrospective data linkage study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:55240 Wed 01 May 2024 15:40:39 AEST ]]> Neuropsychological feedback: a survey of Australian clinical practice https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:54137 Tue 06 Feb 2024 11:49:57 AEDT ]]> Odor Identification Impairment and Change with Cholinesterase Inhibitor Treatment in Mild Cognitive Impairment https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:39950 Thu 30 Jun 2022 14:36:45 AEST ]]> Individual- and population-level impacts of traumatic brain injury and maternal characteristics on subsequent offending behavior https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:36193 Thu 27 Feb 2020 09:42:32 AEDT ]]> Discrepancies in cognitive history from patients and informants in relation to cognitive function https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:583 Thu 25 Jul 2013 09:10:31 AEST ]]> MR spectroscopy findings in retired professional rugby league players https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:32339 Thu 24 May 2018 10:50:05 AEST ]]> The association between obesity and cognitive function in older persons: how much is mediated by inflammation, fasting plasma glucose, and hypertriglyceridemia? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25914 Thu 17 Mar 2022 14:37:50 AEDT ]]> Plasma apolipoproteins and physical and cognitive health in very old individuals https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34724 Thu 17 Feb 2022 09:27:08 AEDT ]]> Anxiety levels are independently associated with cognitive performance in an Australian multiple sclerosis patient cohort https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:31520 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:43:53 AEDT ]]> Mental health in F-111 maintenance workers: the Study of Health Outcomes in Aircraft Maintenance Personnel (SHOAMP) general health and medical study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1064 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:32:08 AEDT ]]> Neuropsychological health in F-111 aircraft maintenance workers https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1119 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:32:00 AEDT ]]> Traumatic brain injury rates and sequelae: a comparison of prisoners with a matched community sample in Australia https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14786 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:26:27 AEDT ]]> The Audio Recorded Cognitive Screen (ARCS): a flexible hybrid cognitive test instrument https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:11471 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:11:39 AEDT ]]> Reducing impulsivity in repeat violent offenders: an open label trial of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10458 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:09:12 AEDT ]]> Brief neuropsychological profiles in psychosis: a pilot study using the Audio Recorded Cognitive Screen (ARCS) https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10315 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:07:00 AEDT ]]> The role of olfactory challenge tests in incipient dementia and clinical trial design https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18865 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:03:15 AEDT ]]> Bilingualism does not alter cognitive decline or dementia risk among Spanish-speaking immigrants https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18748 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:02:47 AEDT ]]> A systematic review of concussion in rugby league https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:21251 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:54:34 AEDT ]]> Plasma protein profiling of mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease across two independent cohorts https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28945 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:31:25 AEDT ]]> Mental health service contact following release from prison or hospital discharge in those with psychosis https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53249 Mon 20 Nov 2023 10:28:45 AEDT ]]> The influence of head injury on olfactory and gustatory function https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45879 Mon 07 Nov 2022 16:23:16 AEDT ]]> Dietary long-chain fatty acids and cognitive performance in older Australian adults https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35710 4.5 but <20.0MJ/d).
